Outstanding Speakers To Attract Nation’s Plumbers To APHC Event

HSE Director Makes Keynote Address On Controversial Gas Registration Scheme

Les Philpott, Director of Utilities Interventions at the Health & Safety Executive, will be making the keynote address at the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors’ (APHC) annual National Plumbing and Heating Weekend. The event will take place on 13-14 June 2008 at the prestigious Queen’s Hotel in Leeds.

The timing of the event means it is highly likely to be very close to the HSE’s announcement of which organisation has been chosen to run the reformed gas installer registration scheme. The address from Les Philpott, therefore, is likely to attract great interest from the industry and from individual plumbers, each of whom will be affected by what happens and will be keen to know exactly what it means for them. This will be an unprecedented opportunity to hear from, and speak to, the man at the centre of the whole process.

Two more excellent speakers follow Les Philpott in the Weekend’s seminar programme, guaranteeing interest for companies large and small. Rudi Klein, the  forthright and engaging Chief Executive of the SEC Group, will speak about the progress the Group has made on the Construction Act review and its efforts to ensure fair payment practice for the building services industry. Mike Johnson from the Department for Communities and Local Government will speak about the latest changes to the Building Regulations, particularly the current focus on Part G, and the requirements on plumbing and heating engineers to notify. He will also touch on the tragic case in Taunton that saw the death of Rhianna Hardie and what lessons can be learnt.

Dr John Reid MP

In addition to this outstanding seminar programme there will be an exhibition running, comprising key suppliers and manufacturers as well as relevant industry bodies. In the evening on Saturday 14 June, the Annual Dinner plays host to guest speaker, The Right Honourable Dr John Reid MP. Having held some key positions in Government in very recent times, he will be a fascinating speaker.

This incredibly full and stimulating weekend of activities will be held at the magnificent Queen’s Hotel in Leeds, which has recently undergone a £10 million refurbishment. The Seminar Programme is free of charge and open to members and non members. Accommodation can be secured at £47.50 per person per night and tickets to the Annual Gala Dinner cost £35.00 per person.

Clive Dickin, Chief Executive of APHC, comments:

“We are delighted to have put together such a fascinating, relevant and topical weekend. It means members of the industry can catch up on all the latest information relevant to them in just one day. The speakers we have confirmed represent a real coup for the industry. Put this together with the exhibition, the dinner and the very reasonable price and we expect a thought-provoking weekend.”
