CALLING ALL VAN DRIVERS...
Since 1995 the UK van population has grown by 40% to just under 3.2 million, and as a result now accounts for 13% of all traffic on British roads and 15% of transport related CO2 emissions within the UK.
On account of the rapid growth of the van sector the Department for Transport have announced funding for a brand new pilot programme targeting operators of vans up to 7.5 tonnes, with the aim of improving operational efficiency and reducing the overall environmental impact of vans across the UK.
The Van Best Practice programme Pilot aims to identify the key factors affecting the efficient operation of today’s van fleet.
The information gathered during this research phase will be used to develop a range of priority products and user guides tailored to the individual needs of the van sector and, depending on the results of the research, may address issues such as effective fuel management, safe loading practices, driver awareness and environmental best practice amongst others.
This is a unique opportunity for fleet managers and van drivers to contribute to this brand new industry specific programme. Anyone interested in taking part in the research phase of this programme should visit http://www.vbp.co.uk/ and complete the on-line survey or alternatively email Robert.s.Anderson@aeat.co.uk for further information
