History

APHC have been around since 1925 under various different names. If you've been in the plumbing industry for some time, you may recognise some of our previous names. Here's how the organisation has arrived at where it is today:

Today

Today the Association represents over 1,500 members across England and Wales, and works with a range of suppliers to add value to our members' businesses.

1996

The current name of APHC (Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors) was taken on in 1996.

1990's

In the early 1990's the Head Office moved from London to Coventry, and 3 regional offices were opened. Regional Managers were recruited into York, Rochdale and Woolwich in London. The four offices worked together to support contractors across England and Wales, bringing them together through a regular programme of meetings and events.

1972

In 1972 the Federation became an Association and was renamed NAPH&MSC which stood for National Association of Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical Services Contractors.

1965

In 1965, the name changed slightly to the NFP&DHE (National Federation of Plumbers and Domestic Heating Engineers), to reflect the increased amount of work carried out by members on heating systems.

1952

In December 1952, the first issue of the organisation's Bulletin was launched. It was a two-page spread detailing the issues within the industry at the time. The Association has continued to communicate with members through newsletters ever since, with the current newsletter - "Hot & Cold" - being issued bi-monthly.

1925

The Association began as the NFP&DE (National Federation of Plumbers and Domestic Engineers) in 1925, in London WC1. The federation was set up initially to provide a working union for plumbing and heating engineers across England and Wales.
